what is the difference between polyester and nylon carpet?

Both are man made materials as the 1st poster said, but.... Nylon is a tougher fiber and will last much longer but with out treatment isn t a very good stain block in itself.
Polyester will resist stains better on itself but is a naturally softer and isn t as durable over all.
Both will pill and fuzz naturally but this is the way the fibers are attached to the backing. It s called a staple product. Only a filament product won t do this since its one long thread "sewn" onto the backing.
As far as getting a shock from carpet you ll get them from both if the air is dry ( usually in the winter time) and they don t have the new backing called Action back. Most carpets have this or a similar backing that almost resists static shock now. The fiber has nothing to do with it.
