Red Army
Tuesday, July 5th, 2011Hello why the USSR invaded Afghanistan? And how the Taliban defeated the Red Army?
Hi I heard that the reason when the USSR invaded Afghanistan because the oil? And why the Red Army in Afghanistan to withdraw? Is the Taliban because they where this good? And why people call Russia to Vietnam? Thank you!
Myth # 1: the USSR invaded Afghanistan. Reality: The USSR already had a large-scale deployment in Afghanistan for over a year by the end of 1979, at the request of the Afghan government, the Democratic People's Party of Afghanistan. The Mujahideen had already been organized and financed by Carter and the CIA, and were the bombing of Kabul and Raising Hell. A schism between the two factions of the PDPA, Khalq factions Bagram and subsequently developed where the Soviets took place. President-e-Khalq, Amin, was suspected of being an asset of the CIA, and tried to purge the faction of Bagram. While the Soviets supported a coup state by the faction of Bagram and its leader, Najibullah. Carter and the western media quickly called an "invasion", but there was no more an invasion that the U.S. presence in Saudi Arabia during the Persian Gulf crisis. Myth # 2: the Russians lost. Reality: In fact, they have left the country with a stable and well armed. They have relatively high losses, but much higher inflicted on their opponents. After they left, Najibullah made a series of political blunders and eventually lost control of the country. Myth # 3: The Taliban got their start there. Fact: The Taliban Mujahideen were not, they were a reaction to the Mujahideen. After the fall of Najibullah in 1992, the country entered a state of anarchy feudal. Former Mojahedin became ruthless drug lords, or traveled the country in gangs raping and looting. The Taliban, mostly Pashtun who had spent Soviet war in Pakistan, are not tired of war, and they promised law and order. As difficult a sheriff in the Wild West, people flocked to their banners. There were no Taliban when the Soviets were there. The Taliban do not assume a general Mujahideen after the invasion of NATO. Now most of the "Taliban" are just regional Mujahideen. Myth # 4: It was about oil. Reality: Afghanistan has no oil. Its greatest asset right now is without a government land, which enables the production of large quantities of heroin. More importantly, the land is on the Silk Road which was in the middle of everything since the dawn of civilization. And since the dawn of civilization, empires and nations have fought on this ground to gain control of the major transit route which it sits on. This is one the most intense space on Earth. Myth # 5: Everyone calls it the "Vietnam Russian." Fact: The only people who do not know large differences call it that. To begin with, Vietnam was not a U.S. state friendly at first, while Afghanistan was a traditional ally the Soviet Union. The U.S. intervention was not at the request of the legitimate government of South Vietnam, either. There was much less of people killed on both sides. And Vietnam has emerged as a state of success in the end because unlike Afghanistan, on the winning side was not immediately abandoned by her boss at the end of the war. What do the mujahideen with arms Carter and Reagan gave them, well, now they have them shooting at us.
