Is conversion and downloading off iPod when comp is off?

I am downloading and converting all things at once for my video iPod, and I fear that my work will go to if I turn off the computer, but I think my computer needs a break ... will be conversions and downloads stop after I turn off my comp or do I keep it all night, or will it continue when I turn my comp again??
